About Me

Originally from Romania, Irina has a BSc in Biology from Jacobs University Bremen and nearly 15 years of experience working in biomedical research in the United Kingdom. During this time, she completed a PhD in Molecular Cell Biology and Genetics at the MRC National Institute for Medical Research/Francis Crick Institute in London. Following her PhD, Irina spent two years as a postdoctoral research scientist at the Francis Crick Institute in London, and eight years at the University of Oxford. For the final 4 years in Oxford, she worked as a Senior Scientist on a project at the interface of neurodegenerative diseases and diabetes. She also spent shorter research stints in field ecology at the Alta Field Research Station in Norway and in human nutrition research at the University of Cambridge.

In 2024, Irina moved to Spain and joined ZBM as a patent adviser. Based in our Madrid office, she works in our biotech team, assisting clients on a wide range of matters, from evaluating the patentability of new inventions to drafting patent applications and assessing risk of infringement/freedom to operate.

She is currently preparing for the European Qualifying Examination (EQE).
