The Spanish group of the International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (AIPPI) celebrated the XL Study Days on Industrial and Intellectual Property on 13th and 14th March, held at Hotel InterContinental Barcelona. Our ZBM team representatives- Montserrat Jané, Noemí Daviu and Oscar Rubio were there to keep up to date on trending topics in the IP sector. The sessions were opened by Santiago Jordà, Presidente Grupo Español AIPPI and Inmaculada Redondo, who represented the Spanish Patent and Trademark Office (OEPM) and the day went on to include presentations and discussions regarding new case laws such as the review of SPTO decisions by the civil courts, current case law in the United Patent Court, unfair competition and misleading advertising such as ‘greenwashing’  to name but a few of the hot topics covered this year.

The AIPPI’s objective is to promote the protection of industrial and intellectual property at international and national level, inviting leading experts in the field who discuss the latest issues in patents, trademarks and intellectual property rights. These dissemination and discussion sessions are an important event in the IP calendar and are an excellent opportunity to explore new IP issues and connect with colleagues from the wider IP community. Speakers included were from industry sectors and specialist IP lawyers as well as European Patent Attorneys. ZBM have a committed policy of staff training and knowledge expansion, through attending seminars and workshops such as the AIPPI, we keep up to date with recent changes and advances in patent laws and practices in Spain, Europe and worldwide. This we believe is of paramount importance for our teams’ professional development as well of course being hugely beneficial to our clients.
