Within the framework of the “Course on patents and utility models 2017” organized by the Spanish Patent and Trademark Office (SPTO) and the Patent Center of the University of Barcelona, ZBM partners will give lectures on specific questions related to the fields of chemistry and pharmacy and Computer-Implemented Inventions & Software.

Bernabé Zea will present the beginners module on 6-9 February 2017 in Madrid. This module will give an introduction to IP and deal with issues such as patentability requirements, protection of inventions, extension of protection to different countries, and infringement of patents, among others. This module will also be repeated on 3-6 April in Derio and on 29 May-1 June and 25-28 September in Barcelona.

Montserrat Jané and Bernabé Zea will impart the Chemistry and pharmacy module on February 20 and 21 in Madrid. Aspects dealt with in this module included general questions about patent protection, patent drafting and prosecution of inventions in the chemical-pharmaceutical field, general issues to be considered in the analysis of risk of infringement, introduction to the search tools on patentability and infringement in chemistry and pharmacy, extensions of patent protection and data exclusivity, and practical examples.

Mathieu de Rooij and Carles Comes will impart on February 27 and 28 in Madrid the computer-Implemented Inventions & Software module. In this module, aspects such as the practice of the European Patent Office (EPO), the Spanish Patent and Trademark Office (SPTO), and the US Patent & Trademark Office (USPTO) on computer-implemented inventions, drafting and presentation strategies for software applications illustrated with examples, as well as particular aspects of infringement in the specific technical field, and some important cases in the field of software will be dealt with.
