On 17th June ZBM hosted a presentation event for clients and friends to explain the most important aspects of the unitary patent and the Unified Patent Court (UPC) which will come into force towards the beginning of 2023 and how it will affect patents already granted and validated in Europe.

In their talk: The Unitary Patent and the Unified Patent Court: how to prepare for the new situation and make the most of it, Montserrat Jané and Noemí Daviu spoke about the advantages and disadvantages of the new system and the associated costs. Practical advice was given on strategies for effective protection before, during and after the entry into force of the system, not forgetting of course the particular situation of Spanish applicants.

We took advantage of the event to offer the following presentations of various aspects of industrial property:

Bernabé Zea / Roadmap for protection in biomedicine: the path from biomedical discovery to product commercialisation

Reyes García / Recommendations to adequately protect and maintain trademarks

Oscar Rubio / Detecting and attacking your competitors’ patents

Each presentation given was followed by a short discussion to share opinions and help clear up any doubts.

This important ZBM event took place in the exquisite Casa Fuster, a beautiful Art Nouveau building in the centre of Barcelona, the work of the illustrious Catalan architect Lluís Domènech i Montaner.

We are very pleased that we had a great deal of interest from over a hundred of our clients and friends who were keen to take advantage of these informative talks.

The session was videorecorded and is available for the persons concerned. To have access to the recording please write to us at .
