Two New European Patent Attorneys on the ZBM Team
We are delighted to announce that two of our team members Javier Ferrandis (MSc Control Systems and Industrial Electronics | BSc Computer Science) and Carlos Maíllo (Ph.D. Biomedicine | M.Sc. Biomedical Research | B.Sc. Biochemistry) have passed their European Qualifying Examination (EQE) and will now become European Patent Attorneys (EPA), taking our total number of EPAs here at ZBM to an impressive number of 16, which means we have one of the highest number of EQE qualified specialists amongst Spanish IP firms and are the only one with a US Patent Agent.
The EQE is widely regarded as one of the most demanding professional examinations and this year has been an especially challenging year for the candidates as the EQE2021 went digital after the cancellation of the EQE2020 due to the pandemic. Although going digital had been a long-term plan for the EQE this had to be fast-tracked to avoid the stress and disappointment of another lost year for the candidates. We are very proud of the dedication and adaptability of both Javier and Carlos under these difficult circumstances.
Javier joined ZBM in 2014 and has experience working with the European Patent Office, first in The Hague and later in Munich, working as an examiner’s assistant. His work includes patent searching, drafting and defence during prosecution, as well as reports on patentability and the risk of infringement.
Carlos joined our team in 2017 where he is involved in drafting patent applications and preparing infringement and patentability opinions in his fields of biomedicine and biochemistry. With the addition of this prestigious title to their career and experience Javier and Carlos can be of even greater help to our clients in their new extended roles as EPAs.
In ZBM we believe in encouraging and supporting our team members to the maximum so they can further develop their career experience in their specific field and grow as a professional. The support we show to each individual helps create a better team and a great team needs great individuals.
Well done Javier and Carlos from us all!
