Andrew Johnston

About Me

Andrew has a first class undergraduate master´s degree in physics from Imperial College London, which included a year spent in Madrid, and a doctorate in biochemistry from the University of Oxford. His doctorate focussed on understanding the solvation structure of drugs, such as cocaine and alprazolam, using a combination of neutron scattering and computational techniques in order to understand their behaviour in vivo, resulting in several peer-reviewed publications.

Andrew entered the patent profession in the UK in 2017, qualifiying as a European patent attorney in 2022. He joined ZBM in 2023. Andrew has extensive experience of drafting and prosecuting patent applications across a wide range of physics and engineering sectors for clients including individuals, SMEs, large companies and universities. He has particular experience of working for multinational corporations with large portfolios in the consumer electronics sector and has succesfully represented such clients in oral proceedings at the European Patent Office. He has also carried out infringement and freedom to operate analyses, patentability studies and third party observations.
